Adelphoi Village Reaches $250,000 Scholarship Milestone
Adelphoi
Village, a child-care
agency serving dependent and delinquent youth, reached a milestone of over
$250,000 in assistance given to alumni of its programs and services through its
Alumni Scholarship and Assistance Program.
In 1985,Adelphoi
Village set up the Alumni Scholarship
and Assistance Program to help youth who have completed one of Adelphoi Village’s programs, which include group
homes, foster care/adoption, education programs, in-home services and mental
health programs. Youth who are
successfully discharged from Adelphoi are eligible to apply for financial
assistance from Adelphoi in the form of grants for education, training and
emergency assistance. Since the
inception of the program, more than 260 alumni have financial received
assistance.
Implementation of this program has helped numerous alumni
transition into independent living, improving their chances for a productive
future. Currently, the agency has 13 specific funds that provide assistance to
youth on a case-by-case basis. Students can apply for assistance for undergraduate
or graduate education, training and vocational programs, or various emergency
needs, such as utility bills or appliance repairs.
Funds were established by friends, community groups,
employees, board members, and alumni of Adelphoi Village. Funds that make up the Alumni Scholarship and
Assistance Program include: Achievement Fund; St. Jude Scholarship Fund;
Brownstone Scholarship; Halboth Foster Care Fund; New
Horizons Fund; Pisciotta Life Skills Fund; Susan’s Place Fund; Westmoreland
Regional Hospital Employees Fund; DiSalvo Education
Fund; MIS Career Technology Fund; Josh Merwin Fund;
Hall Home Scholarship; and the Students in Need Fund.
