Dr. Robert Ketterer Charter School

Ridgeview Academy Charter School in Latrobe has been renamed the Dr. Robert Ketterer Charter School in memory of its former Director of Education and charter school founder who passed away last year.  The name change became official on July 1, 2007.

Dr. Robert Ketterer began his career at Adelphoi USA in 1992 after serving the public school sector for 40 years.  He was the driving force behind the growth of Adelphoi USA’s education system, leading the charge to provide quality education to youth who were experiencing behavioral and academic difficulties.  He also guided Ridgeview Academy, which is a part of the Adelphoi USA system, from a private school to Westmoreland County’s first charter school.

Currently, the school has over 200 students in grades K through 12.

The dedication of the Dr. Robert Ketterer Charter School was held on July 19 at Scatena Center.  Dr. Bob’s wife, Virginia Ketterer and his children, Todd and Holly and their families were in attendance.  The dedication/celebration was to honor Dr. Bob and all he gave to Adelphoi.  Throughout his 14+ years of service as Director of Education, Dr. Bob provided a mentoring and nurturing atmosphere to all his staff and colleagues.

Though Dr. Bob is sadly missed, his memories are plentiful.  Sherri Holler, CEO of Dr. Robert Ketterer Charter School presented candles:  Grief – the pain of losing you is intense, it reminds us of the depth of our love for you; Courage to confront our sorrow, to comfort each, to change our lives; Memory for the times we laughed, the times we cried, the times we were angry with each other, the silly things you did, the caring and joy you gave us; Love – we light this candle that your light will always shine as we enter this new school year and share this day of remembrance with your family and friends.

Dirk Matson, COO of Adelphoi Village, shared many reflections of Dr. Bob.   Several staff members told stories of adventures with Dr. Bob.

A portrait of Bob was presented to Virginia and family.  The framed picture will hang in Scatena Center.
